AT&T contractors break Cypress family’s sprinkler system, vows to fix issue after residents complaint

CYPRESS – For weeks and weeks, Michael Williamson had been trying to get AT&T to fix the sprinkler lines that contractors broke when trying to install fiber optic cable underground.

It was on Sept. 16 when AT&T decided to install fiber optic cable underground in Michael Williamson’s backyard in Cypress.

“They came out and started digging along my back fence,” Williamson said.

He added that he never thought the installation would lead him to contacting KPRC2 weeks later.

“They came out the day before, along with the power company and cable company, and marked where all the lines were and put all kinds of flags down,” he said.

But despite the precautions, two days after installation, Williamson found himself in a damp situation.

“When I turned the sprinklers on they started gushing out,” he said.

Williamson said he soon realized that four sprinkler lines had been broken by AT&T’s contractor.

“They admitted, ‘Yea, pipes are broken,’” he said.

But Williamson said he kept getting the run-around.

“They gave me a ticket number, a pin code and all that kind of stuff, and I asked, ‘When is it going to get fixed?’ They said, ‘Oh, well we don’t know,’” he said.

Finally, he reached out to KPRC2 and we reached out to AT&T

“Not long after I spoke to you today I got a call from AT&T saying they would be out tomorrow morning to fix them,” he said.

AT&T followed up with a statement saying its goal is to minimize the impact the installations have on residents and that they plan to make Williamson’s repairs tomorrow.
