HOUSTON – An investigation is underway after a man fatally shot his ex-girlfriend and then turned the gun on himself in a murder-suicide at a west Houston apartment complex Thursday, officers with the Houston Police Department said.
HPD units responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex located at 3900 Woodchase around 2:15 a.m.
Officers said when they arrived at the scene, they located a woman, who was identified by family members as 32-year-old Jadee Turner, with a gunshot wound to the head and a man believed to be in his 40′s laying in a pool of blood.
At this time, investigators believe this is a murder-suicide.
Police said it was reported that a woman and her uncle lived together in the apartment. The woman’s ex-boyfriend called the uncle and asked him to meet him at the front gate so he could give him money, investigators said. Police said the ex-boyfriend waited on the uncle to leave and entered the apartment through the front door. The door was left unlocked by the uncle, HPD said.
Officers said the woman’s uncle returned to the apartment and went to her room. That’s where police said the man discovered his niece and her ex-boyfriend shot.
Investigators said they broke up a couple of weeks ago and the uncle didn’t see this coming.
Turner’s family told KPRC 2 reporter Re’Chelle Turner that she worked at Methodist Hospital. She was a vegan and loved juicing.
According to Turner’s family, they tried talking to her ex-boyfriend, but he was reportedly not mentally stable. He wouldn’t accept the fact that she wanted space and it was too much for him, family members said.
“Mental illness is real,” said Turner’s stepmother, Leticia Jackson-Turner. “And be careful. And go stay around people that you know where you can be safe.”
