Bond set at over $1M for man charged in possible road rage shooting that left pregnant woman, unborn baby dead in September, docs show

Investigation underway after a pregnant woman died at the hospital after a shooting in north Harris County (KPRC)

Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting death of a pregnant woman following a possible road rage shooting in north Harris County in September.

Keylin Daveyon Hollins, 20, is charged with capital murder in the death of 20-year-old Jennifer Hernandez, according to court documents. Hernandez’s unborn baby also did not survive.

During Thursday’s court appearance, Hollin’s bond was set at $1 million for the capital murder charge, and a $50,000 bond for the aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. The judge also doubled his pre-existing bonds.

What happened

On Sept. 16, 2022, deputies with Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a shooting stemmed from what they believed was a road rage shooting in the 200 block of Airtex Drive.

Hernandez, accompanied by her 17-year-old boyfriend at the time, was driving in a blue Nissan Altima eastbound when they were suddenly approached by a white Volkswagen.

At some point, deputies said the driver of the Volkswagen, later identified as Hollins, pulled out a gun and fired at least five times at the driver’s side of the couple’s vehicle.

Deputies said that Hernandez’s boyfriend was struck twice while she was shot in the neck.

Both were rushed to an area hospital where Hernandez and her unborn baby later died. Her boyfriend survived his injuries.

At this time, it’s still unclear if the couple was targeted.

Deputies believe this was a road rage incident However, according to witnesses who told deputies, there was no interaction between the drivers prior to the shooting.
