Neighbors told police they heard shots fired. Officers said when they arrived at the scene, they found Wendy Duan, 28, dead in the backyard with multiple gunshot wounds. Duan lived alone at the house and no one else was inside the house when police arrived, police said.
Detectives said they identified Duan’s boyfriend, Charvas Thompson, 26, as a suspect after interviewing witnesses at the scene and reviewing nearby video. Police said they also confirmed Thompson’s vehicle from license plate recognition cameras in the area. Duan and Thompson had only been dating for a week before she was killed, authorities said.
Police issued an arrest warrant early Sunday morning and charged Thompson with murder, setting his bond at $500,000.
According to DPS records, the suspect was out on bond in Harris County for assault of a family member.
Sugar Land police worked closely with the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force and the Western District of Louisiana Violent Offenders Task Force to locate the suspect in Shreveport, Louisiana.
The investigation is ongoing at this time. Thompson is expected to be transported to the Fort Bend County jail soon.
