BAYTOWN – A Baytown family is heartbroken and preparing to bury their 16-year-old son after he was gunned down outside their apartment home Tuesday night.
“Nobody is feeling good at this time. This really hurt. And the way he died...” Brian Danville said.
Shane Hamilton was a Goose Creek CISD student-athlete who celebrated his birthday last Friday before his life was cut short on Tuesday.
The family is still shaken up and afraid because no suspects have been arrested. Danville is sharing his stepson’s story and hopes someone can help them.
“He will forever be missed,” Danville said. “We all miss him.”
Memories are all that’s left of 16-year-old Shane Hamilton. He was a freshman at Robert E. Lee High School who played football and basketball.
“Promising superstar and I always believed he would be a superstar one day,” Danville said.
On Tuesday night, Danville says Shane went to a basketball game and grabbed a bite to eat with some of his friends.
When he came back to his family’s home on Shady Hill Drive someone shot Shane multiple times.
His stepfather heard the gunshots and said Shane collapsed right outside their apartment door.
“I rushed outside. Me and two other neighbors who were trying to do CPR on him,” he said.
Officers performed life-saving measures to save Shane, but it was too late.
“It was very difficult because that was the last thing I would expect to happen to Shane,” he said.
The family has placed a makeshift memorial outside their home with Shane’s favorite items.
“We have a basketball out there. He liked to play football, so we put a football out there. His favorite colors are out there, and his favorite number, which is 23,” Danville said.
Danville hopes police will find the person responsible and says the violence needs to stop.
“Let’s put away the guns. Let’s resolve it in a different way without someone losing a loved one,” he said.
The family set up a GoFundMe page to help with Shane’s funereal expenses.
