Video: Woman attempts to chase robbers after bag-snatching, gets dragged by suspect’s vehicle in apartment complex, HPD says

HOUSTON – A surveillance video was released of an aggravated robbery of a woman at a southeast Houston apartment complex in hopes someone will recognize those involved, according to the Houston Police Department.

The robbery was reported on Nov. 9, 2022 around 12 a.m. at an apartment complex located in the 8700 block of Broadway Street.

Police said the woman was walking back to her apartment after leaving a convenience store nearby when she saw two men inside a white Chevrolet Malibu pull up next to her. She told investigators that the men asked if she wanted to buy bars, but told them no and continued to walk to her apartment. The men then pulled into the woman’s apartment complex and asked again if she wanted to buy some bars.

Police said the woman then turned around and walked away from the vehicle, but this time, the video shows one of the suspects get out of the vehicle and run behind her.

According to HPD, the suspect then grabbed the woman’s bag, which had her wallet inside. The suspect could be seen running back to the vehicle while the woman chasing after him. The suspect got into the passenger seat, but the woman was still trying to get her items as the driver attempted to drive away.

Police said the driver struck a parked vehicle during the commotion. He then backed up, dragging the woman alongside the vehicle, and sped out of the parking lot.

The extent of the woman’s injuries was not released.
