Houston airports expect busiest Spring Break travel season on record

HOUSTON – Many Houstonians are vacationing this week so expect more traffic on the roads and in the skies. Houston airports are expecting the busiest Spring break travel season on record.

“It is going to be similar to a Thanksgiving, so we are anticipating 2.3 million travelers through the system this break,” said Jim Szczesniak, chief operating officer for Houston Airport System.

Szczesniak said Houston’s airports are prepared for more travelers and have made adjustments to current operations.

“Anything that’s impacting the roadways, we have taken that construction and we are getting it off to the side, so we have all the lane capacity and rollway capacity as possible,” he said. “For passengers who are coming to pick up at the airport, we have some additional cell phone lot capacity that we have installed, so that gives you the ability to come here and wait until your passengers are ready to be picked up with their bags. Do not go to the terminal until you have those people on the curbs with their bags.”

Szczesniak is urging travelers to reserve parking at the airport ahead of time, you can do this online at fly2houston.com.

There will also be more flexibility on which terminal you choose to enter.

“All our trains are in operation right now, you have the landslide train and post security train and they can take you to all the terminals,” explained Szczesniak.

Airport personnel are urging folks to arrive two hours before their scheduled flight.
