HOUSTON – One of two suspects accused of holding two migrants hostage is dead after an agent-involved shooting in the Greenspoint area Thursday, according to the Waller County District Attorney’s Office.
The second suspect, identified by authorities as Josiah Lamarion Jackson, 17, was arrested at the scene. He has been charged with two counts of aggravated kidnapping, according to court documents.
His bond was set at $50,000 per charge, with a total of $100,000.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Houston Fire Department, FBI, and numerous other SWAT teams from various agencies were called to assist the Waller County Sheriff’s Office with a multi-day major operation to rescue hostages, which began in Waller, at the Studio 6 extended stay located at 71 Esplanade Blvd.

Sean Whittmore, a prosecutor with the Waller County District Attorney’s Office, said three migrants had been traveling in a vehicle on I-10 on March 18 when they were stopped by an unknown number of individuals and forced into another vehicle.
Whittmore said the driver of the vehicle with the migrants called 911 and informed the Waller County Sheriff’s Office about the kidnapping.
The prosecutor declined to comment on the migrants’ immigration status, nationalities, or whether they were being illegally transported at the time of their kidnapping.
Around 4:30 a.m., FBI agents said an agent, out of Quantico, Virginia, shot one of the suspects, whose identity has not yet been released. The other suspect, Jackson, was arrested at the scene.
The two hostages were safely rescued and none of the agents were injured in the incident, investigators said.
“All the hostages have been safely rescued, no FBI agents are injured, and one individual is deceased,” the FBI said in a statement, adding there was no longer a threat to public safety. The FBI declined to say if the person who was fatally shot was one of the kidnappers.
An FBI Shooting Incident Review Team (SIRT) has been placed in charge of the agent-involved shooting investigation.
“The SIRT will conduct a thorough, factual, and objective investigation of the events,” the FBI said in a statement. “In the interest of protecting the investigation’s integrity, we cannot provide any further details at this time.”
