18-year-old playing video games dies after being struck by bullet in Liberty County home during drive-by shooting

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office believes the home may have been targeted

LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas – A 18-year-old is dead after the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office said he was struck in the back by a bullet while he was inside his bedroom playing video games.

According to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, they received 911 calls for multiple shots being fired in an apparent drive-by shooting on Private Road 4894B in the Dayton area. When deputies arrived, they found one person, identified as Gerardo Olivares-Mancha, had been shot and was in serious to critical condition.

Olivares-Mancha was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The victim’s mother and two sisters were also in the house at the time of the incident but were not injured.

During the Investigation, investigators were told that a light-colored pick-up truck was seen fleeing the area shortly after the gunshots were heard.

The sheriff’s office said it appears that the home was targeted due to the location being on a dead-end secluded gravel road, however it is not confirmed at this time.

Investigators said they were told that Olivares-Mancha was playing video games sitting in his bedroom at the time the shots were fired. One of the bullets entered the home and went through the victim’s bedroom wall, ultimately striking him in his back.

The investigation is ongoing.
