$2M worth of classic cars, parts found during search in connection with car repairman accused of ripping off customers

GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas – Several search warrants were executed in connection with a vintage car repairman accused of ripping off customers in a monthslong investigation by the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.

Richard Finley, 48, remains behind bars after he was charged with property theft greater than $300,000.

As reported by KPRC 2′s Bryce Newberry, investigators said Finley’s business, Classic American Street Rods, which restores old, classic vehicles, kept changing locations. He also reportedly defaulted on payments to the storage facilities where customers’ vehicles were stored.

Investigators performed a search at the two storage facilities -- one in the 12900 block of FM 3436 in Dickinson and another in the 200 block of 26th Street in San Leon.

During the search, investigators recovered 24 classic vehicles and numerous car parts with a total value of $2 million. Ten of the vehicles recovered were in the process of being returned to their owners.

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office said additional charges are possible as the investigation remains ongoing. Finley’s bond remains at $200,000.
