HOUSTON – A peace officer employed by Texas Southern University who was working security at a Houston apartment complex was involved in a shooting early Wednesday morning.
According to officials with TSU and the Houston Police Department, the shooting took place at 9000 Almeda at the Fountains At Almeda apartment complex at around 4 a.m.

HPD Chief E. Garcia said a concerned resident made the officer at the apartment complex aware of suspicious activity taking place inside a building on the property.
When the officer went to check out the building, believed to be a storage unit, it appeared to be open.
The officer then went into the building and was met by one man inside.
Garcia said the officer identified himself and immediately, the individual lunged toward him. The officer discharged his weapon in the direction of the individual.
The person fled the scene on foot, and it is not believed that he was hit by gunfire.
The TSU peace officer has been with his department for seven years.
Authorities have not said if the man at the apartment complex will be charged with any crime.
Houston police will be investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact HPD.
