BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas – An Iowa Colony High School football player was flown to the hospital after he was injured in a shooting on Wednesday, according to the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident happened off campus in the 10700 block of Cliffs View Drive in Rosharon, Texas. Authorities did not share the player’s name but said he is a recruited receiver for the football team.
The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office said it happened at approximately 5:50 p.m. on Sept. 13. They said the 17-year-old was shot in the abdomen while driving.
The victim was flown from the scene to a Houston hospital in stable condition. Authorities do not believe there is danger to the public at this time.
“We are relieved to report that despite the severity of the situation; the victim’s life was saved thanks to the swift response of the Brazoria County Sheriff Deputies and Emergency Medical Services,” the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office said two suspects, both age 13, were located and apprehended. They were found to be in possession of guns. They have been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Iowa Colony High School shared a statement about the incident, but they have not released additional information about the shooting.
Officials said the student is still in stable condition. They are asking the community to pray for the student and their family.

Although we are waiting for more information and additional details related to the incident, we can share that the student is in stable condition.
Our priority today is to provide support to our students and staff. The Alvin ISD Crisis Response Team is on the Iowa Colony High School campus to assist with any campus needs, and students will have access to counselors as needed throughout the day. Our teachers will continue to provide instruction, support, and compassion in the classrooms. Additionally, the campus will have an increased administrative support presence. District wellness and safety protocols are in place.
