HOUSTON – The alleged getaway driver in a violent jugging that left a woman paralyzed in Houston’s Chinatown earlier this year has received 10 years of deferred adjudication, according to court documents.

Zy’Nika Ayesha Woods reportedly entered a guilty plea to robbery bodily injury in September. If finishes the term successfully, she will not have a conviction.

The incident happened back on Feb. 13 at a shopping center in the 9800 block of Bellaire Boulevard after the victim, Nhung Troung, was followed more than 20 miles from a bank at 9875 Blackhawk in southeast Houston.

Documents said Woods was captured on surveillance video and admitted to being the getaway driver of a vehicle used to steal an envelope with nearly $4,200 from Troung.

Woods admitted to taking a cut of the money after 18-year-old Joseph Harrell slammed the victim to the ground, “causing pain, cracked ribs, and a fractured spine,” documents said.

Harrell pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery causing serious bodily injury on Oct. 12 and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said he must serve at least half his sentence before being eligible for parole.
