HOUSTON - More than 60,000 sex offenders live in Texas, and most are restricted from having their lights on during Halloween, according to Andy Kahan, director of Crime Stoppers Houston Victim Services.
Kahan joined Zach Lashway on KPRC 2+ Now to show viewers how to use the state’s sex offender database.
During the live segment, Kahan searched for offenders living in the zip code “77099,” he found six registered sex offenders living under the same address.
“It’s basically an alternative housing facility,” Kahan explained. “Believe it or not, these homes are in neighborhoods. But you aren’t going to know that unless you go to the website.”
The database will show the offender’s address, mug shots, different aliases, and physical descriptions. Each offender is assigned a risk level: low, moderate, and high.
“We’re not saying, ‘avoid everything,’ but it’s good to have that knowledge,” Kahan said.
