Dockery was wounded in a shooting on Oct. 12 while responding to an apartment complex in the 100 block of Interstate 45 where a man was reportedly acting erratically and brandishing a firearm.
After the police contacted the suspect at an apartment, there was an exchange of gunfire. The suspect was shot and pronounced dead at the scene. An officer, later identified as Dockery, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery to address his injuries.
“Several Huntsville Police Officers were at the scene when Kyle was shot and all acted heroically,” the department said. “One of those officers, Cpl. John French, returns to work tomorrow, and we are thankful for his return as well.”
The department said Dockery has rehabilitation and rest in his future and asks for continued prayers for him, his family, and the entire department.
