Deputies said they responded to reports of a domestic call and were notified that a husband and a wife had been fighting over a gun at that location.
When they arrived, deputies said they found the man, identified as Elloy Carrillo Jr., still armed. Carrillo was out on parole for a 1998 murder conviction through Harris County.
Multiple attempts were made to get Carrillo away from the weapon. He then started shooting at deputies.
“Deputies then deployed a less-than-lethal Taser, and a very short time later, the subject began firing his firearm at the deputies. All four deputies did return fire, striking the subject several times,” said Chief Deputy Ian Patin with the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office.
All four deputies on the scene returned fire and the suspect was reportedly hit several times.
He was taken to a trauma center at Memorial Herman in the Medical Center via Life Flight and is in stable but critical condition.
No deputies were injured during this incident.
Officials said the Texas Rangers will lead the investigation. The four deputies have been placed on administrative leave, per policy.
“Incidents of this nature serve as a stark reminder of the perpetual threat that all law enforcement officers expose themselves to while safeguarding citizens. We express our gratitude for our deputies who commit to the mission and values of the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office,” a release from BCSO said.
