Woman shot in her face while dropping passenger off after shopping in SE Houston

HOUSTON – A 23-year-old woman is in the hospital after she was shot in her face while dropping someone off after going shopping in southeast Houston Monday night.

The incident took place in the 6310 Thrush Drive at around 11:22 p.m.

Houston police said they were called to the location after being alerted by ShotSpotter technology.

Authorities responded to that location and found a white vehicle with the victim and her mother-in-law inside.

The victim had been shot in her face. Her mother-in-law was not injured.

Medics with the Houston Fire Department transported the woman to a nearby trauma center where she was said to be in stable condition.

Investigators said they believe the woman and her relative were shopping earlier in the day and had returned to drop a passenger off.

When they stopped, HPD said that a dark-colored vehicle pulled up beside them and a suspect approached their car. The gunman then began shooting toward the window, hitting the woman in the face. Investigators said the victim ran to her neighbor, who then called 9-1-1.

“Something about her being shot in the face and I asked if she was ok and she was going to be able to recover and she’s going to be able to recover. That was my main concern,” the neighbor told KPRC 2′s Bill Barajas.

Police said it is unknown if this was a robbery attempt, a case of road rage, or mistaken identity.

““This is a new thing for me, I’ve always lived in residential high rises so like me living out here is a little weird for me just adjusting and having this happen. Sometimes I hear gunshots but I hear them way across the track never in this area,” the neighbor continued.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to contact the HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division at 713-308-8800 or speak anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
