HOUSTON – Houston won’t be seeing a white Christmas this year, but we will have to deal with another form of precipitation in the days leading up to it and that will be in the form of rain.
Fortunately, the whole weekend shouldn’t be a complete washout and all of it should be out of the Houston area in time for Christmas Day.

Starting off with Friday, we have a low chance of rain, approximately 20% for the Houston area.
Most of Saturday should be okay until the evening, when rain and storms begin to make their presence known.
The rain will continue through Christmas Eve so your morning will be a soggy one. Rain chances sit at 70% through midday Sunday.
Luckily, it looks like most of the rain will clear out of the area by Sunday afternoon and evening. Most of the energy associated with a cold front which is bringing these storms will be pulled to the north as the low pressure system races into the Midwest.
If the low pressure system slid further south, we would most likely be dealing with a prolonged rain and storm threat. However, the last few systems have tended to race off towards the center of the country rather than digging south. This takes most of the energy associated with the storm system up north, leaving the cold front with less to work with. Think of it like Laffy Taffy. When you pull the candy apart, it gets thinner the more you pull it. The thick part represents the low pressure system and the cold front is the part you pull. The further you pull, the thinner it gets. That represents the energy level of the system.
Since our part of the front is further away from the low, it gets far less energy than areas closer to the center of the system.
Once the rain gets out of here, you can expect Christmas Day to be on the pleasant and cool side. Partly cloudy skies will be in store with a high temperature in the mid-60s.
As far as impacts to travel, most of Texas will be wet on Saturday so if you are driving, please take it slow and stay alert on those slippery roadways.
