HUMBLE, Texas – A 15-year-old boy is in custody after shooting a man and firing at the victim’s parents in Humble Wednesday, Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman’s Office said.
Constable deputies received reports about a shooting near Treaschwig Road and Mala Way at around 4:25 a.m.
Authorities said when they arrived at the scene, they found a 27-year-old man with a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
According to Precinct 4, the victim immediately contacted his parents, who rushed to his aid after the shooting. The suspect then shot at the vehicle they arrived in, investigators said. The parents were not injured but the suspect fled on foot.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez also tweeted saying units heard additional gunshots possibly being fired at them.
After an extensive search, constable deputies said they located the teen hiding between houses in the neighborhood. The suspect is in custody at this time.
One neighbor told KPRC 2 reporter T.J. Parker that they thought the gunshots were fireworks. Another said they heard the shots while taking out the trash and ran inside. A man told Parker that deputies were going from house to house to find the suspect.
“About seven to eight cops on foot… converged on that house,” the neighbor said.
Authorities are investigating what led up to the shooting.
