HOUSTON – If volunteering is on your New Year’s resolution list, City of Houston BARC Animal Shelter has a new opportunity to explore. Animal lovers of all experiences will now get the chance to save a life through volunteering at BARC. The shelter is launching a new Tiered Volunteer Program in the new year.

The levels include, beginner, intermediate, advanced and BARC Buddies, for volunteers who cannot or chose not to handle larger animals but still want to assist in other areas.
“Our tiered program is here to help make it as easy as possible to jump right in to lend a paw at the shelter by organizing our new and existing volunteers into groups according to level of experience and time donated to the shelter,” said BARC’s Shelter Director Jarrad Mears.
Under the tiered system, beginners will learn from more experienced volunteers in the advanced levels, some of whom have been volunteering with BARC for decades. The shelter also offers regular training courses established to help participants learn more about our animals.
