HOUSTON – It has been a long time since Houston itself hit a freezing temperature.

In fact, it has been since Dec. 26, 2022 since Bush Intercontinental Airport recorded a temperature below 33 degrees.

There is the potential that we could get to that mark at the end of this week, Friday and Saturday morning. If we did drop to 32 degrees, it would be the first time Houston would hit that mark for all of 2023.

The KPRC 2 Storm Tracker Team is currently forecasting a low temperature of 34 degrees for Houston on Friday. That isn’t quite at the freezing mark for the city itself, but other communities outside of Houston may actually drop into the freezing category.

Places such as Huntsville, Livingston, Cleveland, and Liberty may fall below the freezing temperature threshold for a few hours early Friday morning. This would not be a “hard freeze” but instead a light freeze for a few hours. This means you do not need to worry about pipes, but certainly bring inside pets! Young and sensitive plants can also be damaged so bring them indoors!

Morning temperatures will be back in the 40s by Saturday morning and into 2024!
