HOUSTON – 2023 was a year of drier and hotter weather than normal for the Houston metro area. Here’s a look at what was seen in Houston this year.
RAINFALL 🌧️
Most of 2023 was drier than normal with only a few months Houston saw above normal rainfall amounts.
The only three months where Houston saw above normal rainfall was January, April, and May. Every other month we saw at least slightly below normal rainfall amounts.
The wettest day in Houston was January 24, where we saw 4.05 inches of rain.
As of Dec. 29, Bush Intercontinental Airport was over nine inches in deficit from where it normally is in terms of recorded rainfall. Hobby is almost double that with over 17 inches from where it normally is at this point in the year.
Though the area has seen rainfall in December, we are still seeing a deficit in the normal amount of rainfall that is seen in the month. Both Bush and Hobby are over an inch below normal for December rainfall.
Bush Intercontinental Airport has recorded eight days of rain in December, the wettest day being December 15 where over an inch of rain fell.

TEMPERATURES 🌡️
The Houston area has also seen above normal temperatures for all but three months of the year.
The only three months where Houston saw slightly below normal temperatures were in April, May, and November. Every other month, the temperatures were considered above average.
The two hottest days of the year were August 24 and August 27, where Houston hit 109 degrees. The coldest days were February 18 and December 11, where Houston hit 33 degrees.
December is also shaping up to be warm, with temperatures coming in 2.4 degrees above average for this time of year.
