16-year-old driver charged after leading police on chase, sending 6 people to the hospital including a 3-year-old

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A teenager is now facing multiple charges after he reportedly injured six people while leading police on a high-speed chase in northeast Harris County.

The chase ended when the driver, who police said was 16 years old, crashed his vehicle on Kingwood Drive near the Eastex Freeway.

According to law enforcement, a Plum Grove police officer said that they noticed a Chevrolet pickup truck with no tail light.

When the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, he said the driver accelerated west on FM 2090 through Splendora, then went north to East River, and then drove back south on I-69 with speeds reaching 110 MPH.

Officers said the teen then continued on and off the feeder roads of I-69. After driving through FM 2090, Creekwood, Roman Forest, and FM 1485 intersections, the driver reportedly continued traveling south at a high rate of speed.

The Department of Safety and Montgomery County deputies began to assist with the chase as the driver continued through FM 1314 onto Northpark where he turned eastbound for a short distance before making a U-turn.

When he got to I-69, police said he then got on the freeway at Northpark where he again accelerated.

As the driver approached the Kingwood area, the pickup truck slammed into a Toyota Tundra.

The collision caused the pickup to roll over and made the Tundra lose control. The Tundra then went on to strike a Chevrolet Equinox and caused it to roll over.

Officers said that four people were inside the Equinox, including a 3-year-old little girl. All suffered minor injuries and were transported to Kingwood Hospital.

Additionally, two people who were in the Tundra were also injured and transported to Kingwood.

The driver of the pickup truck, along with a 16-year-old female passenger, were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash and remained uninjured.

DPS, Montgomery County, and the Houston Police Department assisted Plum Grove in the crash investigation.

Investigators said that inside the pickup, they found two clips for a firearm and a holster. It is believed that the teenager threw a pistol out of the window at some point during the pursuit.

The teenager is expected to face multiple charges.
