CLUTE, Texas – A Brazoswood High School teacher will be terminated in response to charges of sexual misconduct involving a teen girl in 2007, district officials announced Wednesday.
In a statement, district officials said the Brazosport ISD Board of Trustees took action to propose the termination of Brandyn Hargrove during a special-called board meeting held Tuesday.
Under the law, Hargrove will remain on paid administrative leave until final action to terminate her employment contract is taken by the board, which is tentatively scheduled for Jan. 22.
“BISD remains dedicated to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity among our staff, and we take the safety and well-being of our students very seriously. We understand that this news may raise concerns,” the statement said. “If any parent, student, or former student has concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact Brazoswood High School Principal Rita Pintavalle or Brazosport ISD Police Chief Wade Nichols. We appreciate your understanding and support during this challenging time.”
According to court documents, Hargrove was indicted on six counts of sexual assault of a child, four counts of indecency with a child by contact, and two counts of indecency with a child by exposure. She was arrested on Dec. 21 and posted a $240,000 bond. She was released from the Brazoria County Jail, according to jail records.
Parents and sources told KPRC 2 reporter Corley Peel Hargrove is a former Teacher of the Year. Brazosport ISD said the district first learned about the investigation in September.
Clute Police Chief James Fitch said Hargrove had a relationship with a former student when she was 15 to 17 years old. Hargrove, now 43, would have been around 27 years old at the time.
