Houston family ‘robbed of peace of mind’ after burglar breaks in while they sleep

“It was shocking to know that somebody had been in my house, and I had no idea.”

HOUSTON, Texas – A burglar broke into a Houston area home while a family was fast asleep.

Just as the clock struck midnight on December 31, a man welcomed himself into Andre Evan’s Third Ward home. Also inside was Evan’s wife and two children, who were all fast asleep.

The man was caught on a security camera inside of the home. Recordings show him taking his time as he shuffles through belongings, at one point sitting on the couch, before realizing that he was caught in 4K.

All the while, the family never even heard the man in their home.

“The door was left open,” Evans told KPRC 2′s Gage Goulding. “And so when we saw that, I came in, walked through the room and noticed that the TV was gone.”

It’s only then that he started scrolling through his security camera video to find the man inside his home.

“It was shocking to know that somebody had been in my house, and I had no idea,” he said. “Your robbed of your peace of mind when this happens.”

In all, the crook got away with a 75-inch flat screen TV, a PlayStation gaming console and a backpack full of video games.

The family is now hoping someone out there will see the video, recognize the suspect and lead detectives right to him.

Crystal clear security camera videos, like the one Evans has, can help investigators when it comes to finding suspect and closing cases.

“Absolutely. We do. We see it often when we share with the public, and they can help us identify folks.” said Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. “Well, nowadays most homeowners have some kind of security device, whether it be some type of alarm or cameras. The camera technology has really improved throughout the years, so having a good, visible image is always good.”

If you know who this suspect is or have a tip that could help investigators, you can submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers of Houston online or by calling 713-222-TIPS (8477).
