HOUSTON – The Spring Branch ISD Police Department is issuing a warning to parents and students after a man reportedly asked a group of elementary students to get into his car.

In a message sent to parents, Spring Branch ISD Police Chief Larry Baimbridge said the incident happened Tuesday in the 13000 block of Myrtlea Drive.

Baimbridge said several students returned to their elementary campus to play on the playground after school. While they were walking home, Baimbridge said the students were approached by a man driving an older model white Corvette.

Baimbridge said the man asked the students to get into his car. When the students ran away, the man reportedly followed them in his car.

“Thankfully, the students were unharmed, and we are proud of them for knowing not to get in a car with a stranger,” Baimbridge said.

The department shared some safety reminders for parents to share with their children:

  • Students should remain aware of their surroundings at all times. Cell phones can be a distraction!
  • Students should not speak to strangers or approach unknown vehicles.
  • Students should avoid walking to or from school alone, whenever possible.
  • Parents/guardians should know where their children are before and after the school day.
  • Parents/guardians should be on time for pick up from school and from after-school programs so students are not left alone waiting outside of the school building.
  • Students should not be left alone at bus stops, whenever possible.
