HOUSTON – The Houston Marathon is the city of Houston’s largest single day sporting event with over 250,000 volunteers, spectators, and runners. All those people are impacted by the weather because the races go on rain or shine.
This year, rain isn’t the issue instead we have to deal with chilly temperatures and winds. The Storm Tracker 2 team is forecasting temperatures in the 40s hours into the race.
In-Flight Running coach Micheal Marlino says wind chills must be considered as well.
“A lot of people don’t look at the feels like temperature that can change hour-by-hour, that combination between the wind and the cold and a lot of time people shed too early, burn calories,” Marlino said.
Marlino says on the other hand, too many layers can also be detrimental to runners as well, but most runners shed clothes along the route.
Wearing a breathable jacket and carrying lip balm will keep you comfortable. Marlino suggests having the proper accessories like gloves and hats to keep you warm.
