HOUSTON – If you are in the Houston metro and southward, you probably had a pretty decent day temperature-wise Sunday.
Temperatures stayed in the 50s after a cold front moved through over the weekend.

That cold air will continue to dive as we progress throughout the beginning of the week.
On top of that, some areas may have to deal with just a little bit of ice over the next 24 hours.
Let’s break down what to expect.
TEMPERATURES
As mentioned, depending on where you are, you have either had a pretty nice and pleasant day with the temperatures, or you have been very cold. The deepest cold air as of just before 4 p.m. Sunday is located just north of the Houston metro. Hobby is sitting at 53 degrees but just about a hour north in Huntsville they are seeing a frigid 29 degrees. That cold air will be moving south as the day progresses and especially after the sun goes down tonight.
FREEZING RAIN POTENTIAL
There is the potential of some light freezing rain and drizzle as we move into Sunday night and especially into Monday as a weather disturbance moves in.

I want to emphasize that we will not be dealing with a devastating ice storm. This is not going to lead to trees and powerlines coming down because of the weight of ice. What we could be dealing with is a very light glaze of ice on some surfaces, mainly elevated surfaces like bridges and overpasses. Ice accumulations are expected to be less than 0.10 inches.
While the impacts will probably be very minor, be careful on the roads and bridges starting tonight and into tomorrow. It doesn’t take much for roads and bridges to turn into a slip-and-slide in icy weather. As the temperatures get colder, just be mindful that if the roadways look wet, there is the potential for that wetness to be ice.
Areas to the north of the Houston metro in East Texas like Tyler and Longview could see a little more ice than what we will see down here, so if you plan to travel north toward the DFW metroplex or into East Texas be mindful you could run into a little more ice issues than down here.
THE REST OF SUNDAY INTO MONDAY MORNING
The deeper cold air will continue to filter into southeast Texas as we progress into the evening and overnight hours Sunday. Clouds will keep our temperatures hovering right around the freezing mark give or take a degree or two, which is why we have the potential for freezing rain or a wintry mix into Monday.
Monday is going to be cold with highs for Houston not getting out of the upper-30s. Temperatures Monday night will fall into the low-20s as that cold air settles into the area. The cold continues into Tuesday but thankfully it looks like we should stay above freezing by Wednesday as temperatures rebound into the 40s. By Thursday, we may be back close to the 60 degree mark.
