Houston-area businesses announce closures due to wintry weather

HOUSTON – The Houston area is currently experiencing freezing temperatures, which is prompting several closures across the city on Monday and into Tuesday.

Here is a list of businesses that have announced closures for Tuesday, Jan. 16. This list will continue to be updated:

  • Harris County Clerk’s Office
  • All Harris County Tax Office
  • The Houston Zoo will close at 1 p.m. on Monday and remain closed on Tuesday
  • Space Center Houston
  • Fort Bend County Precinct 1 Justices of Peace Kelly Crow and Tricia Krenek cancel dockets
  • The Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA) will be closing the EZ TAG stores and administrative offices Tuesday. The HCTRA call center will be open with limited coverage. This is a precaution due to the inclement weather. Customers may manage their accounts online at hctra.org.
  • At this time the Washburn Tunnel remains open. The Lynchburg Ferry is currently closed. For the latest information on the operational status of the Lynchburg Ferry, please visit https://www.facebook.com/lynchburgferry.
  • Due to inclement weather, the City of Houston Municipal Courts will be closed Tuesday. All normal court operations will resume on Wednesday. Resets will be given in person at all City of Houston court locations beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 17 through Wednesday, Jan. 24 until 5 p.m.
  • The City of Fulshear will be closed Tuesday.
  • Jury service is canceled in Harris County Tuesday due to inclement weather. It is expected to resume on Wednesday.
  • Fort Bend County offices, courts, and facilities will be closed on Tuesday. Consequently, all scheduled court dockets for the day and jury services are canceled.
  • Harris County Criminal Courts at Law will be closed on Tuesday due to inclement weather and the potential for dangerous road conditions. All cases set for Tuesday will be rescheduled to the next available date. This includes cases set on the dockets for each of the 16 Harris County Criminal Courts at Law, as well as the docket run by Harris County Criminal Courts at Law Associate Judge David Singer.
  • Harris County Civil Courts at Law will be closed Tuesday due to inclement weather and the potential for dangerous road conditions. All cases set for Tuesday will be rescheduled. This includes cases on the dockets for each of the four Harris County Civil Courts at Law, as well as the docket run by Harris County Civil Courts at Law Associate Judge Jermaine Thomas.
