MILAM, Texas – The La Porte Police Department is mourning the loss of its police chief following what the department says was an accident in Milam, Texas, on Sunday.
According to the department, Chief Doug Ditrich’s family was notified of the incident.

“The city respects their need for privacy at this time,” a statement from La Porte PD said.
The incident was reportedly unrelated to any investigation or law enforcement duties and no foul play was involved.
The City of La Porte is providing counseling assistance for the department and the city’s staff.
LPPD assistant chiefs Bennie Boles and Scott Pullig will oversee the department operations until further notice.
Ditrich’s memorial information will be shared with the public in the coming days.
