What we know about teens who surrendered after deadly Humble gas station shooting stemming from chip theft

The shooting happened in the 7400 block of Will Clayton Parkway.

Here’s what we know about the suspects.

One of the two teenagers was charged with murder on Monday. His name is name is Mario Young, and he is 17 years old. He does not have a criminal record.

The other suspect is an 18-year-old. KPRC 2 is not releasing his name until he has been charged.

Both teens were wanted for capital murder.

Community activists Quanell X and Candice Matthews walked into the HPD headquarters with the teens as they turned themselves in.

Quanell X said the teens reached out to them because they wanted to turn themselves in safely.

“We safely got them turned in, so they would not be harmed and no other citizens would be harmed in the process, neither law enforcement nor these two young men,” Quanell X said.

He said the teens stated the store clerk pulled out a gun first on the day of the shooting. They are claiming self-defense. Quanell X said he also had several conversations with the teens.

What happened?

The teens entered the store, then one of them put a bag of chips in his pants. They later left the store.

The clerk then got in his car to follow them, and police said he was shot by the suspects. He later died at the scene.
