HOUSTON – Frustrations with the United States Postal Service continue to grow while package delays and missing mail issues are still being reported across the Houston area.
On Thursday, customer Laura Lopez shared her frustration with KPRC 2 reporter Re’Chelle Turner. Laura ran into Turner at the post office on Little York Road in north Houston and talked about how a package of hers has been delayed since Jan. 9.
“I was wondering if they are doing interviews about the packages that are taking too long to be delivered. Sure enough, I have one, but it has not arrived to its destination,” Lopez told Re’Chelle.
Laura is trying to ship homemade medicine to a friend in Dallas who is battling cancer.
“I’m with my hands tied up,” she said.
Laura says the post office needs to get it together.
“There’s nothing I can do,” she added.
During an interview, Laura’s friend called her about the package. Turner informed the two that the package was still in Houston.
“Are you mad? Shocked? What’s going on through your mind?” Turner asked.
“Well yes, I’m upset because I paid the money. I’ve been calling him and bugging him if he’s received the stuff because I had to go get the stuff from Mexico and then have it delivered to Dallas, so that’s why I’m upset because his mother has cancer, so we are trying to help her with homemade remedies,” she said.
Lopez went inside and asked workers about the problem. An employee told Laura she could file a claim to get her money back.
“She said we’re still behind packages from December. I told her I’m not here for other people’s packages. I’m just here from mine,” she said.
A USPS representative sent the following statement to Turner:
“We are aware of concerns from some local Houston customers regarding their mail delivery. We want customers to know that we continue the expansion of our operations in the Houston area because of increased volume and we are adding additional capacity with a new facility to improve service. The Postal Service has dispatched additional resources from the surrounding area and implemented improved processes to address root causes of sporadic issues to improve the reliability of mail delivery in the Houston area. Customers should also note that multiple severe weather events in Houston and across the nation have impacted many transportation, logistics, and delivery companies, and the Postal Service is no exception. We express our apologies to those who experienced a deviation from our normal dependable service and customers should already see improvements in delivery as we work th(r)ough these issues.”
On Friday, Turner will be doing an interview with Khaliah Guillory. She is the founder and CEO of Nap Bar in Houston. Guillory is also having problems with USPS. She mailed a big shipment to the Grammy’s earlier this month and the package has not arrived. Guillory has been speaking to Turner and wants to share how the problem is affecting small businesses.
