‘We don’t feel safe anymore’: Stranger caught on camera using knife to puncture tires at Deer Park home

DEER PARK, Texas – A Deer Park family is on edge after they say a complete stranger showed up at their door wielding a giant knife, then slashed nearly a dozen tires.

The knife attack was caught on the family’s security camera and police are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect.

It happened around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday night at a home on Ellen Drive off Park Avenue.

The suspect targeted three vehicles sitting in the family’s driveway. They don’t know who he is or why he would do such a thing.

“They don’t recognize the guy or have any leads. They haven’t had any bad confrontations lately that would lead someone to do this. So at this point, we’re looking at that it’s not someone they know,” said Lt. Chris Brown of the Deer Park Police Department.

The suspect is seen on the security camera video wearing glasses, a dark hoodie, and light pants. He showed up in a black SUV, which appears to be a Lincoln Navigator. After puncturing 11 tires on the three parked cars in the driveway, he returned to his car before making his way to the family’s front door.

“My wife comes up to the door because she hears somebody knocking on it pretty hard and looks out the door. She sees somebody and she thought he needed help. So she comes over and tells me there’s somebody at the door, you need to come over. So I’m like, all right, I’m almost done taking a shower. She was like, no, you need to come over right now,” the man said. “By the time I made it outside, he’s leaving already. And we just see all the flat tires.”

After a total of about nine minutes, the suspect finally left, seemingly yelling expletives caught on surveillance video as he drove away.

The victim said they don’t have any enemies that they know of and are unsure why someone would do this.

“With having kids, it’s like we felt good before this because they used to come out, walk the dog, get outside and play. We were just like we came out and the kids are outside playing, but now it’s like we don’t feel safe anymore,” he said.

The victim said the suspect in the video seemed unfazed by the cameras the family had.

“He seems like he’s willing to do like anything. Because he even takes his own time and just pops the tires and then comes over to the door and rings the bell and knocks on the door that’s like pretty aggressive, dangerous,” he said.

The man said he is glad his wife didn’t answer the door and is hopeful it doesn’t happen to anyone else.

“You just never know when people is going to come up to your door and you know, this is going to happen,” the man said.

Lt. Brown is asking anybody who believes they may have captured images of the suspect or his vehicle on their surveillance cameras to share it with them.

Anyone with any information to asked to call the Deer Park Police Department at 281-479-1511 or email them at crimetips@deerparktx.org.
