HOUSTON, Texas – More than 20 cats were rescued from a one-bedroom apartment in Harris County on Friday, Jan. 26, according to the Houston Humane Society.
The 26 cats, who mostly suffer from respiratory issues, bacterial infections and severe eye injuries, are receiving around-the-clock treatment from the veterinary staff at HHS.

Officials from the Harris County Animal Control Office said the situation stemmed from the owner adopting three cats without spaying or neutering them, which resulted in an overwhelming number of felines.
“Houston Humane Society is deeply committed to the well-being of animals and strives to provide them with the care and support they need to thrive. Thanks to the dedication of the veterinary staff, several cats, who will be made available for adoption once they are cleared medically, have shown signs of improvement in their well-being since their arrival. Nine were well enough to be placed with loving foster families the same day they arrived,” HHS said.
