HOUSTON – District officials with Houston Independent School District announced they have unveiled a proposed academic calendar for the 2024-2025 school year.
In a letter sent to parents and staff on Wednesday evening, the proposed calendar “puts kids first and provides the learning time our students need.”

The calendar was developed based on feedback received by the community.

For the 2024-2025 school year, students would return to campus on Aug. 12, with their last day proposed being Jun. 4.
The 2024-2025 academic calendar presents notable deviations from its predecessor, the 2023-2024 academic calendar. One prominent change is the proposed advancement of the school year start date by several weeks. In contrast to the 2023 academic year, which commenced on Aug. 28, the suggested calendar for the upcoming school year proposes an earlier start date of Aug. 12.
The calendar will not be final until the district’s school board approves it, according to the letter. Board members will consider the calendar during their meeting on Feb. 8.
