According to police, an off-duty deputy from Harris County Precinct 6 was out doing personal business at a shop at the location regarding a vehicle when a man approached the business with his face covered.

At some point, the deputy discharged his weapon at the suspect. The suspect then jumped into a black BMW and fled the scene.

“We don’t have a lot of details yet about exactly what the suspect’s intentions were, what he was doing,” said Assistant Chief with the Houston Police Department Wyatt Martin.

Martin said the BMW was later found abandoned and recovered.

At this point, there is no evidence indicating the suspect was hit. Martin said they will be checking with local hospitals to see if anyone comes in with a gunshot wound.

Martin said it appears there may have been another person in the BMW with the suspect. The vehicle also had paper tags. HPD is working to process the vehicle.

Martin said the deputy is an approximately six-year veteran with the Harris County Precinct 6 Constable’s Office. The constable’s office said he will likely be put on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
