Houston gets 7 games as FIFA reveals 2026 tournament schedule

HOUSTON – FIFA announced its schedule for all the matches for the 2026 World Cup on Sunday.

Houston is among the 11 cities in the United States that will host. Some games will also be played in Mexico and Canada.

The location for the final game will be at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

KPRC 2′s Randy McIlvoy talked with President of Houston’s 2026 World Cup Host Committee after the tournament schedule was announced. See the interview below.

Thousands of people around the world and many Houstonians are excited for the big news.

Houston will host seven games in June and July of 2026.

Other places that will host games in this upcoming world cup include: Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Guadalajara, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Miami, Monterrey, New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, Toronto and Vancouver.

The opener of the 39-day tournament will be at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca on June 11.

The U.S. team will play its opener at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on June 12, then travel to Seattle’s Lumen Field and finish the group stage at SoFi.

The third-place game will be at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

The last time the US hosted the tournament was in 1994.

Houston Mayor John Whitmire shared his reaction to the city getting seven games on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“I am thrilled to hear that FIFA has unveiled the game schedule for the 2026 World Cup, including the soccer matches that will be played in the City of Houston,” Whitmire said. “Hosting such a prestigious event will provide an incredible opportunity for our city to showcase its culture, hospitality, and infrastructure on a global stage. We are committed to working closely with FIFA to ensure that all preparations are in place to welcome the world and provide an unforgettable experience for players, fans, and visitors.”
