HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said a teenager has been arrested and charged with murder for the shooting death of a former student of Cypress Lakes High School.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said on X, formerly known as Twitter, the 15-year-old has been charged in the shooting death of 17-year-old Jake Mason. The 15-year-old’s name has not been released. He is in custody at the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center.

The shooting happened on Dec. 19, 2023, in the 5800 block of Brenwood Trails Lane.
The shooting prompted multiple Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District campuses to go into “Secure the Building” mode.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they saw a group gathering around the location.
Mason was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mason was at Cypress Lakes High School waiting to pick up his girlfriend who was a student. He was a former student and officially left in September.
Deputies said Mason was with “an unidentified group of males” when an altercation occurred.
