HOUSTONThe following is a clarification to a previous article.

We previously reported about a SH 288 TxDOT construction project. According to TxDOT the SH 288 project is not connected with the I-45 expansion project. TxDOT tell us, the SH 288 project is to reduce flooding.

Crews will expand the storm drainage system from MacGregor to Cleburne.

A TxDOT spokesperson also tells KPRC 2 that they’ve been meeting with community members about the construction, including re-routing an entrance to H-E-B and relocating a METRO bus stop.

Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. the Super Neighborhood and TxDOT will be at a meeting at Good Hope Missionary Baptist church, to discuss this project and hear residents concerns.

A TxDOT project is causing a stir in a 3rd ward neighborhood where people say they had no idea about it.

While the project itself is supposed to make improvements to one of our major highways, the process is catching people off guard and feared to cause a major inconvenience.

While we didn’t see any detour signs, we’re already seeing barricades that the MacGregor Super Neighborhood president says is a sign of what’s to come. Making matters more complex, aside from her -- no one else we spoke to seems to know anything about what’s to come.

“I don’t know nothing about this,” said Alisha Auzenne who was shopping at H-E-B.

“I still don’t know when this is going to happen, when is it’s supposed to happen,” said, Mary D’Andrea, who was shopping at H-E-B.

“Within the next couple of days, they’re going to be shutting down North MacGregor to one lane. It is four lanes, and you don’t tell us?” MacGregor Super Neighborhood President, Tomaro Bell, asked.

Bell says people won’t be able to use the North MacGregor exit from 288, “The MacGregor exit is the artery to get into the Medical Center whether you’re from this neighborhood or anywhere around this city, that is a critical exit and it’s going to be shut down for over a month.”

Meaning detours that seem to point to a traffic disaster.

“Very inconvenient and also with the increased traffic and with the other construction being done on 610 it’s a nightmare,” said Mark D’Andrea who was shopping at HEB.

“Should’ve warned someone or something about it,” Auzenne said.

On Wednesday, Bell is planning to host a meeting at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and is calling on the public to attend. She adds TxDOT will be there, and she will be asking them to postpone construction in this area at least until after rodeo season and spring break so that there will be less traffic in general.
