HOUSTON – The World Youth Foundation and PPG Global, LLC hosted a special celebration alongside Houston Community College’s Small Business Development Program at the end of National Mentoring Month, highlighting how important it is to have and maintain relationships throughout your professional and personal career.
The WYF has “delivered free, out-of-school programming and access to community-wide events for underserved and underrepresented minority youth, ages 6-24,” according to their website.

Additionally, the organization also exposes youth to personal and professional growth opportunities. Their mission is to “Empower Every Youth to Win in Life Against All Odds.”
It is a unique combination of bringing together the cadre of community mentorship programs, mentors, and mentees. They represent educators, business owners, COH and Harris County public officials, financial institutions, faith-based programs, engineering, facilities and construction firms, professional consultants, technology and technical groups, MWBE/ Contractor/Supplier Diversity Programs, municipalities, universities, schools, hospitals, healthcare, non-profit and industry-specific associations, and many more.
The premise theme highlighted the value of mentoring throughout all industries. Collectively, we are developing the current and next leaders of tomorrow!
They have also sent dozens of students from the Houston area to Washington D.C. and provided them a chance to interact with some of the top decision-makers in our country.
WYF CEO Karen Franklin and her team crafted the event, which took place at Davis Street in Midtown.
KPRC 2′s Moriah Ballard hosted the event.
Elected officials, community leaders, and students who have been impacted positively by the program were at the event.
Also, among those in attendance were Mayor Pro-Tem Martha Castex-Tatum, Dr. Dana Carmouche with the Houston Independent School District and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee dialed in to give her remarks.
Parents who have students in the program addressed the crowd and shared how imperative the WYF has been in their child’s growth.
