HOUSTON – A video from Lakewood Church’s live broadcast captured the moment when gunshots rang out inside the church Sunday.
Authorities say a woman entered the church with a rifle, wearing a trench coat and holding a small child around 2 p.m. Sunday.
At some point, the woman began firing gunshots before being confronted by an off-duty officer with the Houston Police Department along with a TABC agent.
The woman was shot and died. During the shooting, a 7-year-old boy was left critically injured and another man was struck in the leg by gunfire. It is unknown if the victims were struck by the suspect or officers during the shooting.
The live broadcast video shows a speaker talking shortly before the church’s Spanish-speaking service was set to begin.
In the video, you hear the first set of gunshots in the background as the man was talking. The man briefly stops before speaking again. Shortly afterwards, more gunshots can be heard and people can be seen running away in the background.
Witnesses who spoke to KPRC 2 said they heard at least 14 gunshots.
