generic ERCOT green conditions

HOUSTON – Starting February 20, ERCOT is making a change, and you’ll see the difference the next time there is a risk to the grid.

The Grid Conditions meter will be updated on the ERCOT Grid Conditions dashboard as well as within the ERCOT Mobile App.

The updates will include:

  • The Grid Conditions meter graphic will now reflect the seven grid condition levels that ERCOT uses, including ERCOT Weather Watch, Voluntary Conservation Notice, and Conservation Appeal introduced as part of the Texas Advisory and Notification System (TXANS).
  • A Conservation Appeal will now prompt a Grid Conditions meter color of orange.
  • Energy Emergency Level 1 will now prompt a Grid Conditions meter color of red.
  • Energy Emergency Levels 1 and 2 will now display in the same shade of red.

See the difference in the interactive graphic below:

The last time the grid was in the black - EMERGENCY LEVEL 3, was during the freeze of 2021. In February 2021 most of the state experienced widespread blackouts.

In September 2023 the grid was in EMERGENCY LEVEL 2.
