HOUSTON – Travis Scott joined a long list of celebrities and athletes for his 2024 Cactus Jack Foundation HBCU Celebrity Softball Classic on Thursday at Minute Maid Park.
Proceeds from the event will go toward the Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund, Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack Foundation, and Project H.E.A.L initiative.
The programs are aimed at helping students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities students who are experiencing last-minute financial adversity graduate on time with their class.
The Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund provided $1 million in total scholarships to 100 seniors at an HBCU to apply toward their tuition fees.
Fans filled the stadium and held up signs of their favorite celebrity at the event.
C.J. Stroud, the Texans’ Pro Bowl selection and NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, put on a show at the annual event, crushing home runs at Minute Maid Park.
He was named the Most Valuable Player of the charity event.
“It’s for a good cause, I appreciate Trav having me out,” Stroud said. “It’s been a cool couple of hours. I played when I was growing up. I got some swings in. Just having fun, nothing too serious.”
Stroud was a standout, looking like a natural baseball player. He hit a double and a home run during the game.
Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who made an inspirational comeback from a life-threatening injury to return to play football again, was among the participants in the game.
“It means everything,” Hamlin said. “Football is my first love, even before I started liking girls. Football was my first love. To be blessed with the opportunity to be back on the field, it’s my whole world. It means everything.”
