GALVESTON, Texas – An armed robbery suspect is behind bars after authorities said he and another suspect led police on a chase after robbing a store in Galveston Saturday.
The Galveston Police Department said officers responded to reports of an armed robbery at a business in the 6300 block of Stewart Road at approximately 7:45 p.m. Saturday.

Employees told officers that two men had entered the store holding a gun and demanded money. The suspects then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash in a car.
Officers later located the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the suspects fled, throwing the gun away in the process which police said was later recovered.
During the chase, the suspects caused a crash at the intersection of 61st Street and Stewart Road. The fleeing vehicle continued and the driver ran a stop sign at 57th Street and Avenue N ½ where he struck a responding police unit.
The suspects eventually entered an apartment complex parking lot in the 3900 block of Avenue G. Police said the suspect vehicle came to an abrupt stop and a GPD patrol vehicle struck the suspect’s vehicle.
The driver of the suspect vehicle fled on foot, but was later caught. Another suspect, the passenger, fled on foot and has yet to be apprehended.
Police said the suspect’s vehicle kept going after the two got out of the car, finally coming to a final stop after hitting another parked car.
The driver of the vehicle has been identified as 31-year-old Tobias Galan of Galveston. Galan is charged with multiple offenses including, aggravated robbery with a bond of $150,000, possession of a firearm by a felon which carries a $75,000 bond, and evading arrest in a motor vehicle with a bond of $75,000.
Galan received minor injuries and was taken to the emergency room at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He was later cleared and booked into the Galveston County Jail.
The second suspect is known to police investigators and arrest warrants are forthcoming.
A Galveston police officer also received minor injuries responding to the incident and was later cleared for return to service.
