5 ways to save money on your trip to Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

Dust off your boots and get ready for the rides and food, the countdown is on for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

KPRC 2 Reporter Brittany Jeffers looks into ways to save you money this year.

Her tips include buying a coupon pack ahead of time, and that deadline is fast approaching!

The concerts, bucking broncos, BBQ, and the rides, it’s all fun and add up fast.

1. Visit on special days

Before you buy your tickets, make sure you consider those special discount days, especially Wednesdays.

“Every single Wednesday, there’s going to be a special deal. But on the first and last Wednesday of the rodeo, children 12 and under can get in free. Adults 16 and over can also get in for free before noon,” explained Danielle Grossman, Rodeo Houston’s Director of Communications.

Grossman said visitors should also make sure to put Wednesday, March 6 on their calendar. It’s community day, which means free admission for everyone until noon. Plus, you can also get buy-one-get-one rides, games and discounted food.

“There’s going to be $3 corn dogs, $3 lemonade, and some other options for families to save money because we know it can be challenging,” she said.

From pizza slices to baklava, several vendors will offer special discounts every Wednesday.

2. Buy a cheap concert ticket

Consider buying a base-price ticket to a concert. If you buy a ticket to the show, you get access to everything on the grounds.

“For $25, $5 more than the grounds ticket, you can go to a concert, you can see the rodeo, and you can experience it if you haven’t before. So, it’s truly a deal,” Grossman explained.

3. Research parking options

One other thing to account for if you’re headed to the rodeo, is parking. It will cost you $25 per vehicle to park in the Rodeo Houston lot, but carpooling can help save some cash.

“Because we know $25 can be a lot, it does add up. But if you get together with other families in one car and then pay that one fee, it’s not as bad, and then take the tram into NRG park,” Grossman explained.

You can find a map for drop-off spots in case you want to take a ride share and the Metro rail is an option.

4. Use the Houston Rodeo app

If you need help trying to find deals on tickets or food, download the brand-new Rodeo Houston app. It will keep track of concert and rodeo tickets and directions.

“If you have any questions about how to save money, how to plan out your trip to save the most money, and how to get the best deal, we have that on there as well,” Grossman said.

5. Buy Carnival ticket packs ahead of time

You can buy half-price carnival ticket packs online and add the tickets to your app. For example, a $20 ticket pack includes $64 worth of rides, food and game coupons. You have to plan because these discount tickets are only sold until February 24th.
