The district is looking to hire teachers for current openings and jobs for the 2024-2025 school year.

At the event, people were also able to get more information about working in the New Education System and for non-NES schools.

Teachers met with campus representatives, attended a panel discussion and Q&A with school and district leaders, and learned more from HISD Superintendent Mike Miles about the changes at HISD.

Teachers also had the chance to see how NES instructors teach. Educators provided instructional demonstrations in different areas such as, English, language arts, math, and Art of Thinking, which teaches critical thinking.

HISD is currently surveying teachers and asking them about whether they plan to be part of the district next school year.

Thousands of teachers are planning to return. 55% of teachers have answered the survey, and 97% said they plan to return to HISD. 14% also said they want to move to an NES school next year.

The deadline for the survey is March 1.

“HISD is building an elite team to serve our students—so if you’re an effective teacher or one who is ready to grow as an educator, we want you to join us,” said Chief Human Resources Officer Jessica Neyman. “In turn, we pledge to support you. At HISD, we provide higher-than-average compensation for teachers at our schools across the board—and in our NES schools, we offer some of the highest teacher compensation packages in the U.S. This makes a significant difference in a teacher’s paycheck today and in their retirement payout in the future. On Saturday, we hope educators from across the area will come hear what it’s like to be a part of Team HISD.”

KPRC 2 previously reported on how HISD teachers said they were not receiving the salaries they had been promised.

The school district said NES schools pay teachers different salaries based on the subject and grade level they teach as well as teacher evaluation systems. Salaries for high school NES teachers start at $82,816 and can go up to $88,816 for a teacher with five or more years of experience.
