HOUSTON – As RodeoHouston kicks off this month, one group is reminding us that it’s not just about the thrill of the rides or the aroma of delicious food in the air but it’s also about celebrating community, culture, and legacy.
Amidst the festivities, Burns Original BBQ tent stands out not only for its savory bites but also for its commitment to supporting education in the Houston area.
For the team at Burns, the rodeo isn’t just about serving up mouthwatering dishes; it’s about giving back.
Each year, they allocate a portion of their proceeds towards scholarships for deserving students. In 2023 alone, they awarded $54,000 to 54 students, ensuring local youth have the support they need to pursue their dreams.
Over 50 years ago, Roy Burns Sr. laid the foundation for Burns Barbecue in Acres Homes.
What started as a humble venture to provide for his family ended up blossoming into a community institution. The legacy of generosity and care for the neighborhood has been passed down through generations, with the late Anthony Bourdain recognizing their authentic approach to food and community.
Visitors to the Burns Barbecue tent can expect more than just delicious ribs and brisket. The tent is a celebration of Houston’s rich culture with collaborations alongside various small Black businesses in the city.
From The Puddery to Sneaky Eats; Turkey Leg Hut to Taste Bar, their collabs have something for everyone!
It’s also Black History Month, and KPRC 2 is celebrating Black excellence on every level. So, what better place to do that than with the crew at Burns, one of Houston’s top-rated, black-owned businesses!
So, if you’re heading to RodeoHouston, don’t forget to swing by their tents.
Not only will you enjoy a feast, but you’ll also be contributing to a worthy cause.
