HOUSTON – The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) has long been celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere, thrilling rodeo events, and diverse entertainment.
However, amidst the excitement and energy of the Rodeo, there may be people who find it difficult to enjoy the fun due to sensory sensitivities or challenges.

Recognizing the importance of inclusivity and accessibility, the HLSR has introduced its ‘Sensory Friendly Day,’ aimed at providing a welcoming and accommodating environment for all guests, regardless of their sensory needs.
On Sensory Friendly Day, the carnival area will have reduced lights and sounds.
This is done to minimize potential triggers for individuals with sensory sensitivities, as bright lights and loud noises can be distressing and overwhelming.
By creating a calmer and more tranquil environment, the HLSR hopes to provide a space where guests can explore and engage with the carnival attractions at their own pace, without unnecessary stressors.
For individuals with sensory sensitivities, excessive stimuli such as bright lights and loud noises can be distressing and overwhelming, potentially leading to feelings of anxiety or sensory overload. By dialing down the intensity of these sensory inputs, HLSR seeks to create a calmer and more tranquil environment where guests can explore and engage with the carnival attractions at their own pace, free from unnecessary stressors.
