HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Sean Teare spoke to KPRC 2 after he defeated Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg during the primary election.

Teare will now face Republican Dan Simons in the November general election.

On Wednesday, he discussed his plan to create an empathetic justice system.

He was asked on whether this would be easy to achieve.

“Actually, I think it is pretty easy. I think what we have to do is not create the next generation of violent criminals by giving lower-level offenders a criminal record when they don’t need it, but also holding the people who are preying on our communities accountable, removing them from society, and doing it successfully,” he said.

Another one of Teare’s priorities is to change how the DA’s office accepts charges.

“We’ve got to change the way we do that so that we can be more equitable, so we can be better about the charges that we accept from police. But, also we need to be a resource to the police officers on the street,” he said.

He also said he wants the DA’s office to be more involved with officers with their intake division.

Teare also discussed staffing at the office. He wants to hire more experienced prosecutors to help officers and to create a good work environment at the DA’s office.

He also wants the DA’s office to work with diversion programs before they charge people.
