Last year, the Hitchcock Bulldogs won their first state championship in program history. This year, they’re primed to run it back.
Hitchcock is one of the last two teams remaining in the 3A UIL playoffs, and their players are confident they aren’t finished yet.
“I feel like we’re one of the best teams in state,” senior Damien McDaniel said.
“We were in the same spot last year and now we’re back to it. It feels good,” junior Elijah Sherwood said.
Their run to state this year has been built off their defense. Head coach Christopher Jordan said he has made the Bulldogs’ stingy defense and high effort playing style points of emphasis to the team.
“We want to be able to stop people. We want to hold teams to a certain number.” Jordan said.
After defeating San Antonio Cole in the state semifinal, Hitchcock will compete for the state championship on Friday.
